A New King v.8
Till another king arose, which knew not Joseph.Acts 7:18,
For thus saith the Lord God, My people went down aforetime into Egypt to sojourn there; and the Assyrian oppressed them without cause.Isaiah 52:4
Why no new name for Moses?
Moses Mother was Jochabed
Don't know if I'll ever find an answer on this side of life, but I thought it interesting. With all of the name changes in the bible, why was Moses name never changed? He was given the name by Pharaoh's daughter.
The Midwives Shiphrah and Puah
And the king of Egypt spake to the Hebrew midwives, of which the name of the one was Shiphrah, and the name of the other Puah:
16 And he said, When ye do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them upon the stools; if it be a son, then ye shall kill him: but if it be a daughter, then she shall live.
17 But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men children alive.
18 And the king of Egypt called for the midwives, and said unto them, Why have ye done this thing, and have saved the men children alive?
19 And the midwives said unto Pharaoh, Because the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women; for they are lively, and are delivered ere the midwives come in unto them.
20 Therefore God dealt well with the midwives: and the people multiplied, and waxed very mighty.
21 And it came to pass, because the midwives feared God, that he made them houses.
"obey God rather than men". Acts 5:29
Often Midwives wear barren, God made them Houses (Families of their own) .

(Un) Burning Bush
- Bush/Thorn bush Representation of Sin (Gen 3) [ in the Talmud we are told that the bush had thorns]
- Fire Representation of God (Hebrews 12:29)
- Not Devouring the Bush Representation of Grace (John 3:16)
It is by God's grace that he does not destroy us immediately because of our sin.
It was God’s grace that attracted him, Not God’s righteousness.
We need to remember that God’s Grace is what attracts us to Him.
3:12 And he said, Certainly I
will be with thee; and this shall be a token unto thee, that I have sent thee:
When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain. [Exodus 19]

I will harden his
heart v.21
7 Times Pharaoh harden his heart
7 Times God hardened Pharaohs heart.
I love the illustration that I heard once where you can have a ball of snow, and a ball of clay.
You can place both under the light and heat of the sun. One will melt, the other will harden.
When we are placed under the Light of God we will either "melt" or "harden" .

Circumcision was an outward sign
of an inward belief system.
As a reminder to them that they
have to deal with the flesh, a mark,
a reminder daily that they have to
die to the flesh (cutting off of the flesh).
Intimacy, purity, sensitivity, to
the Lord
A relationship that sets us apart
Like Baptism in the New Testament.
An outward sign of an inward
change.
Deuteronomy 6:4-9
4 Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord:5 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
6 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:
7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
8 And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.
9 And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.

17 And it came to pass, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God led them not through the way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near; for God said, Lest peradventure the people repent when they see war, and they return to Egypt:
18 But God led the people about, through the way of the wilderness of the Red sea: and the children of Israel went up harnessed out of the land of Egypt.
God led them to a "dead end" so that they would trust in Him and be a witness to God's Power.

The 10 Commandments
The giving of the Law is an act of love
Exodus 20:1-17 (ESV) Also found in Deuteronomy 5
1. You shall have no other gods before me
2. You shall not make for yourself a carved image
3. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain
4. Remember the Sabbath day
5. Honor your father and your mother
6. You shall not murder
7. You shall not commit adultery
8. You shall not steal
9. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor
10.You shall not covet
1 And God spoke all these words, saying,
2 “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.
3 “You shall have no other gods before me.
Notice that the Law was given to "The Chosen, the ones God called out of Egypt" Egypt in the Bible is always a type/picture of the world. We [those saved] are called out of this world. The Law was given to those chosen to be separate from the world and follow God, living under a Theocracy(Governed/ruled by God). We are to follow God and make Him the ruler of our lives. When we allow other things to occupy our minds they can become "gods" (in place of God) in our lives.(examples: Sports, Family, Work, Entertainment, etc..)
4 “You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. 5 You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.
Too often people worship creation rather than the Creator. We all know the story of Shadrach Meshach and Abednego (Daniel 3) The only exception I've ever found in the Bible of someone bowing down to a false god while maintaining a pure heart is Naaman in 2 Kings 5:18
"In this matter may the Lord pardon your servant: when my master goes into the house of Rimmon to worship there, leaning on my arm, and I bow myself in the house of Rimmon, when I bow myself in the house of Rimmon, the Lord pardon your servant in this matter.”
7 “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.
O.K. so maybe you don't think you take God's Name in vain, but have you ever stopped to consider that if we are calling ourselves "Christians" (Christ like) yet we are not living like Him to the point where others see Jesus in us than we are using His name in vain. Ouch!!! Another interesting perspective to consider is all the hype that the words "In God We Trust" that is on the currency in the USA should or shouldn't be removed. Well, most of my life I always with those that would fight to keep it on the money, but after really studying this the other day I came to the conclusion that since as a nation we are NOT placing our TRUST in GOD, then we probably shouldn't use it that way on the money, or we are using it in vain, while often at the same time putting the god (money) in place of the LORD.
8 “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your male servant, or your female servant, or your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates. 11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.
12 “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.
13 “You shall not murder.
14 “You shall not commit adultery.
15 “You shall not steal.
16 “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
17 “You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his male servant, or his female servant, or his ox, or his donkey, or anything that is your neighbor's.”
God in the darkness?
1 John 1:5. This
then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you,
that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
Exodus 20:21 And the people stood afar off, and Moses drew near unto the thick darkness where God was.
I gave these verses some thought today, and came to the conclusion that the darkness in Exodus was acting more as a veil.
17 And the Lord said to Moses, “This very thing that you have spoken I will do, for you have found favor in my sight, and I know you by name.” 18 Moses said, “Please show me your glory.” 19 And he said, “I will make all my goodness pass before you and will proclaim before you my name ‘The Lord.’ And I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy on whom I will show mercy. 20 But,” he said, “you cannot see my face, for man shall not see me and live.” 21 And the Lord said, “Behold, there is a place by me where you shall stand on the rock, 22 and while my glory passes by I will put you in a cleft of the rock, and I will cover you with my hand until I have passed by. 23 Then I will take away my hand, and you shall see my back, but my face shall not be seen.” [ESV]
1. "My Goodness pass before you" God's Goodness recognized
2. "Proclaim before you My name" God's Name proclaimed
A glimps of His glory is revealed to us when
God's goodness is recognized
and when
God's name is proclaimed
When your are saved you experience God's goodness [mercy/love].
When you are saved you cannot help but proclaim His name.
I find it interesting how it seems like you cannot have one without the other.
If you truly experience God's goodness
you will proclaim His name because of what you have witnessed.
If you proclaim His name in honor and respect
you will start to witness His goodness.
Revelation 4:11
“Worthy are you, our Lord and God,
to receive glory and honor and power,
for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.” [ESV]
Acts1:8
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” [ESV]
