Jeremiah: "YaHWeH has uplifted"
Written by: Jeremiah
Chapters:52
Verses:1364

Often referred to as "the weeping Prophet"

Jeremiah (The Divine Judgment Upon the Nations).

-----Jeremiah 1-----

  The Prophet Is Called

4 Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying:5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you;I ordained you a prophet to the nations.”

This verse reminds me of:

Psalms 139:16Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written,The days fashioned for me,When as yet there were none of them.

6 Then said I:“Ah, Lord God!Behold, I cannot speak, for I am a youth.”

Excuses.

This hit me pretty hard while studying this passage

Like us Jeremiah was saying through his actions..."God you are making a mistake".

  • "I cannot speak"  I'm not good at that
  • "I  am a youth"  I'm not experienced enough

7 But the Lord said to me:“Do not say, ‘I am a youth,’For you shall go to all to whom I send you,And whatever I command you, you shall speak.
8 Do not be afraid of their faces,For I am with you to deliver you,” says the Lord.

"deliver you" >> Note: you will face trouble, will not be easy.

-----Jeremiah 6-----

16 Thus saith the Lord, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.

Isaiah 26:3
Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.

-----Jeremiah 7-----

-----Jeremiah 8-----

-----Jeremiah 9-----

23 Thus saith the Lord, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches:
24 But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the Lord which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the Lord.

-----Jeremiah 10-----

Christmas Trees a pagan thing?

v3 For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.
v.4 They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.

This is the passage where many people get the idea that you should not have Christmas trees. If you read the chapter you will see that it is talking about idols. So, if you are going to "worship" the tree you definitely should not have one. Might be a good time to mention that there are several other things that we can place in our lives that often men "worship" examples: Sports, Entertainment, Money, Jobs, Relationships, A Famous Person.

Here is what Jesus did when faced with the challenge to worship something or someone else....

Luke 4:8
And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.       (Jesus quoting, Deuteronomy 6:13)

-----Jeremiah 11-----

-----Jeremiah 12-----

How long shall the land mourn, and the herbs of every field wither, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein? the beasts are consumed, and the birds; because they said, He shall not see our last end.

Isaiah 12:12-13
12 For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.
13 Instead of the thorn shall come up the fir tree, and instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree: and it shall be to the Lord for a name, for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.

-----Jeremiah 17-----

Thus saith the Lord; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the Lord.
For he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited.
Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is.
For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.
The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
10 I the Lord search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.

It is good to read the flip side of this passage located in Psalms 1

Psalms 1
1Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.
Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

  The Blood curse

 Jehoiachin (a.k.a. Jeconiah / Coniah)

24 As I live, saith the Lord, though Coniah the son of Jehoiakim king of Judah were the signet upon my right hand, yet would I pluck thee thence;
25 And I will give thee into the hand of them that seek thy life, and into the hand of them whose face thou fearest, even into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of the Chaldeans.
26 And I will cast thee out, and thy mother that bare thee, into another country, where ye were not born; and there shall ye die.
27 But to the land whereunto they desire to return, thither shall they not return.
28 Is this man Coniah a despised broken idol? is he a vessel wherein is no pleasure? wherefore are they cast out, he and his seed, and are cast into a land which they know not?
29 O earth, earth, earth, hear the word of the Lord.
30 Thus saith the Lord, Write ye this man childless, a man that shall not prosper in his days: for no man of his seed shall prosper, sitting upon the throne of David, and ruling any more in Judah.

In the Genealogy of Jesus
Matthew 1:12
And after they were brought to Babylon, Jechonias begat Salathiel; and Salathiel begat Zorobabel;

Blood Curse placed on his seed. Remember  "her seed" in Genesis 3:15? It is in reference to a virgin birth

Jesus was not from the bloodline of Joseph, but he was legally from the line of Joseph.

-----Jeremiah 23-----

 Woe to the shepherds

1 “Woe to the shepherds who destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture!” declares the Lord. 2Therefore thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, concerning the shepherds who care for my people: “You have scattered my flock and have driven them away, and you have not attended to them. Behold, I will attend to you for your evil deeds, declares the Lord. 3Then I will gather the remnant of my flock out of all the countries where I have driven them, and I will bring them back to their fold, and they shall be fruitful and multiply. [ESV]

Did you catch that??

v2."You have scattered my flock and have driven them away"

v3. "where I have driven them"

which is it ???   (go to Jeremiah 27 God's Sovereignty)

Jehovah Tsidkenu  (First time mentioned in Bible)

In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, The Lord Our Righteousness.

Omnipresence

24 Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the Lord. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the Lord.

 God's Sovereignty

Give them this charge for their masters: ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: This is what you shall say to your masters: It is I who by my great power and my outstretched arm have made the earth, with the men and animals that are on the earth, and I give it to whomever it seems right to me. Now I have given all these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, my servant, and I have given him also the beasts of the field to serve him. All the nations shall serve him and his son and his grandson, until the time of his own land comes. Then many nations and great kings shall make him their slave.

God is Sovereign. (possessing supreme or ultimate power./freedom from external control)

A New Covenant

31 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:
32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the Lord:
33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the Lord, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.

A passage to read with this: 2 Corinthians 3

Comforting Words

34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the Lord: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.

Omnipotence

Cut Covenant

18 And I will give the men that have transgressed my covenant, which have not performed the words of the covenant which they had made before me, when they cut the calf in twain, and passed between the parts thereof,
