Eternal Life used 16 times
No Parables in the Gospel of John ( Gospel of Luke contains 27)
3 "Must"  John 3:7,14 and 4:24
8 times “My hour has not yet come” is mentioned
7 times the word Meta Tauta (after these things) is used in John (3:22;5:1; 5:14; 6:1; 7:1; 11:11; 21:1)
7 “I AM”‘s  (John 6:35; 8:12; 10:9; 10:11; 11:25; 14:6; 14:1)
7 Discourses
7 Miracles - ( Some suggest that the order of the Miracles portrays the spiritual history of Israel )
              1. Water into wine
              2.Healing nobleman’s son
              3.Restoring the impotent man
              4.Multiplying loaves and fishes
              5.Walking on the sea
              6.Giving sight to the blind
              7.Raising the dead.

The book of John cover 20days of Jesus on earth.

-----John 1-----

Behold The LAMB of God

A lamb for a man –  [Genesis  4]
A lamb for a family – Exodus (Passover)  [Exodus 12]
A lamb for a Nation – Leviticus (Day of Atonement)  [Exodus 29]
A Lamb for the World – John  [John 1:29]

Baptism

Prior to John the Baptist there is No mention of Baptism in Old Testament.
So if you believe that salvation comes by baptism than you belive that none of the Old Testament people were saved.

Why was JESUS baptized ?
  1. Affirmation of John’s ministry (I approve of his service for me).
  2. Identification with us personally.
  3. Declaration to His Father Prophetically (1.His submission to the Fathers plan-He came to die). Roman 6 Baptism is a picture of death and burial. 2. Expectation of the Fathers Power – Resurrection).
  4. Illustration of the reality of the Trinity. Holy Sprit in the form of a Dove, Voice from Heaven” This is my Son” .

-----John 2-----

  Water to Wine

And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece.

6 the number of man > we are empty and need to be filled.

-----John 3-----

John Chapter 3 is the 1000th chapter of the Bible

3 "Must"

  • ...Ye must be born again - John 3:7
  • ... so must the Son of man be lifted up - John 3:14
  • ... must worship him in spirit and in truth. - John 4:24

Moses lifted up the snake in the desert

satan is often referred to as a serpent in the bible. Why then did God have Moses lift up a bronze serpent in the desert to “save” them from death?
Snake representing sin. We must see our sin in order to repent/believe. John 3:14 Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up,. and 2 Corinthians 5:21 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. So, when we think of the cross we are to see Jesus as the One who took our sin to the cross, when we "see" that, then we can repent/believe and be "healed" from certain death.

Thought this was pretty neat

John 3:16

For God                the greatest being
so                           the greatest degree
loved                      the greatest affection
the world               the greatest object of love
that he gave          the greatest act
his only                  the greatest treasure
begotten                 the greatest relationship
Son,                        the greatest gift
that whosoever      the greatest company
believeth                the greatest trust
in him                     the greatest object of faith
should not perish   the greatest deliverance
but have                 the greatest assurance
everlasting             the greatest promise
life.                         the greatest blessing

Love Reaches

Love that reaches upward is Adoration.
Love that reaches outward is Affection.
Love that reaches downward is Grace.

men loved darkness rather than Light

John 3:19
And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

Loved agapáō  means “to be totally given over to”.

-----John 4-----

Then cometh he to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.

Sychar means “purchased”

Jesus spoke to the Woman at the well 7 times
She spoke to Him 6 times.

The Gentiles were usually healed from a distance (Exception the woman that touched the helm of His garment).

-----John 5-----

Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool, which is called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having five porches.

 Bethesda “House of Mercy”

Breaking the Sabbath

16 And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the sabbath day.
17 But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work.

16 So the Jewish leaders began harassing(Or persecuting) Jesus for breaking the Sabbath rules.
17 But Jesus replied, “My Father is always working, and so am I.”  (NLT)

While we are on this topic let me point out that the observance of the Sabbath is for the Israelite.

Exodus 31:15-17
15 Six days may work be done; but in the seventh is the sabbath of rest, holy to the Lord: whosoever doeth any work in the sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death.
16 Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant.
17 It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.

As a believer you will never be judged for your sins

24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

Hath = Not you are going to get it. You already have it.

All Scripture Points To Jesus Christ

Jesus responding to the Jewish leaders the ones with a head knowledge but no heart knowledge(no relationship).

39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.(KJV)

39 “You search the Scriptures because you think they give you eternal life. But the Scriptures point to me! (NLT)

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

-----John 6-----

I AM the good shepherd 10:11

I AM the resurrection and the life 11:25

I AM the true vine 15:1

35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.

 Deuteronomy 16:16
Three times in a year shall all thy males appear before the Lord thy God in the place which he shall choose; in the feast of unleavened bread, and in the feast of weeks, and in the feast of tabernacles: and they shall not appear before the Lord empty:

Of the three required they speak of:
  1. The Cross
  2. The Church
  3. The Second Coming

32 The Pharisees heard that the people murmured such things concerning him; and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to take him.

45 Then came the officers to the chief priests and Pharisees; and they said unto them, Why have ye not brought him?
46 The officers answered, Never man spake like this man.
47 Then answered them the Pharisees, Are ye also deceived?
48 Have any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed on him?

1 Corinthians 1:25-31
25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
26 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:
27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;
28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:
29 That no flesh should glory in his presence.
30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:
31 That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.

-----John 8-----

This chapter starts with the Pharisees wanting to stone a Woman,
and ends with them wanting to stone Jesus.

Whenever the Holy Spirit wants to underline something for us the Pharisees pick up stones.

woman taken in adultery

And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them.  (Implying before sunrise)

Sitting down = position of authority
 It was the standard rabbinical practice; at the well (Matthew 4:6); Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5:1);
Upper Room (Matthew 13:12). It is a position of authority as a teacher of the Law.

Stoning:
Deuteronomy 22:22-24
Leviticus 20:10

 Some Rules for stoning
“None but the woman”: Law required two witnesses (Deuteronomy 19:15).
Witnesses must assist in carrying out the sentence (Deuteronomy 17:7).

I AM the Bread of Life 6:35
I AM the light of the world  8:12
I AM the door 10:9

I AM the good shepherd 10:11

I AM the resurrection and the life 11:25

I AM the way, the truth, and the life 14:6

I AM the true vine 15:1

12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

Light of the world (Literally)

When Jesus said " I am the light of the world" (John 8:12). I never realized till the other day that this would also may mean in the literal sense during the millennium.

In Zachariah 14:6-7 "On that day the sources of light will no longer shine, yet there will be continuous day! Only the Lord knows how this could happen. There will be no normal day and night, for at evening time it will still be light. (NLT)

On that day there will be no light; the sunlight and moonlight will diminish. It will be a day known only to Yahweh, without day or night, but there will be light at evening. (HCSB)

And it shall come to pass in that day, that the light shall not be clear, nor dark: But it shall be one day which shall be known to the Lord, not day, nor night: but it shall come to pass, that at evening time it shall be light. (KJV)

Kind of brings new light to verses like Daniel 12:3 and Philippians 2:15.

Whenever the Holy Spirit wants to underline something for us the Pharisees pick up stones.

-----John 9-----

  Jesus heals a Blind man

Only record in the Bible where a man born blind was healed.

There are more cases of blindness in the gospels than any other sickness/disability.

1 deaf & dumb
1 sick of palsy
1 sick of a fever
2 cases of lepers
3 dead raised
5 blind healed.

And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?

Some viewed in that time that you could sin in while still in the womb. They use the example of Jacob and Esau in:
Genesis 25:22   And the children struggled together within her; and she said, If it be so, why am I thus? And she went to enquire of the Lord.

The blind man was  born blind to glorify God; he waited many years for God’s blessing, A lesson to us all.

When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay,

“Spittle” it only used in only 2 miracles in the Gospels

“Spittle” spit ( Living water?) is only used in two miracles (John 9:6 and Mk 7:33).
Kneading clay specifically forbidden by the Sabbath laws of the Jews.

Witness of the Blind Man (9:8-34)

The Blind Man (like ourselves):
  1.  Outside the Temple; alienated from God.
  2.  Blind; unable to see the Savior.
  3.  Blind from birth: “Estranged from the womb” (Psa 58:3).
  4.  Beyond the aid of man; helpless and hopeless.
  5.  Beggar; without resources.
  6.  Made no appeal; uttered no cry.
  7.  No human eye pities the sinner in his wretchedness.
The Lord:
  1.  Looked in pity.
  2.  Declared that the power and grace of God could be manifested in him.
  3.  Necessity of grace be accomplished.
  4.  Announced Himself as the One who had the power to communicate light to those in darkness (v. 5).
  5.  Impressed upon the blind beggar his desperate need.
  6.  Pointed him to the means of blessing.
  7.  The beggar obeyed, and obtained evidence of a miracle of mercy.

Do you or don’t you know where He is from?

John 7: 31 And many of the people believed on him, and said, When Christ cometh, will he do more miracles than these which this man hath done?

Funny how they are contradicting themselves from their earlier statement.

John 9:29 We know that God spake unto Moses: as for this fellow, we know not from whence he is.

1 Corinthians 1:25 -31
25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
26 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:
27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;

-----John 10-----

All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them.
A Thief steals by stealth
A Robber steals by Violence

I AM the Bread of Life 6:35

I AM the light of the world  8:12
I AM the door 10:9
I AM the good shepherd 10:11

I AM the resurrection and the life 11:25

I AM the way, the truth, and the life 14:6

I AM the true vine 15:1

I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.

10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

The thief > in reference to Satan. A combination of verse 8  "thieves and robbers" by:
"stealth and/or violence".

I AM the Bread of Life 6:35

I AM the light of the world  8:12

I AM the door 10:9
I AM the good shepherd 10:11
I AM the resurrection and the life 11:25

I AM the way, the truth, and the life 14:6

I AM the true vine 15:1

11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.

Other Sheep

v.16 And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.

This is in reference to the Gentiles (That hear His voice and follow the Shepard).

No Man can Take my Life

18 No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.

John 19:30
When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

Jesus could not be killed

"No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father."   John 10:18 (KJV)

Here is a thought I've never thought about before. Jesus was sinless and therefore he was/is immortal. He had to literally give up his life voluntarily ( He gave up/yielded the ghost). In order to make it possible to die for us. "No one can take my life, but I give it". JESUS prayed 3 times that if there be any other way that this cup would pass from him. There was no other way [Jesus is the only way]. Also found interesting that there is no record of anyone dying in the presence of Jesus (I am life). Those that were crucified by His side did not die till after He did.

Hanukkah
8 day Jewish Holiday commemorating the rededication of the Temple (Second Temple) in Jerusalem.

22 And it was at Jerusalem the feast of the dedication, and it was winter.

Funny how we often breeze by and miss the smallest details...

“Feast of dedication, and it was winter Hanukkah (Chanukah)

Dedication of Solomon’s temple: harvest time 1 Kings 8:2

Dedication of Nehemiah’s temple: spring time Ezra 6:15,16

  Ye are gods?

34 Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?

A quote from

Psalms 82:6 I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.

These words were addressed to Jewish
magistrates, commissioned by YHWH to act as His vice-regents in
administering justice to His people: They judged for God, in the room of
God; whose sentences were God’ sentences; whose judgment was
God’s judgment; rebels against whom were rebels against God.
If magistrates are called God’s sons, may not the Messiah claim the same
title? (He uses Scripture the way they used Scripture: smallest detail to
prove a point.) Argument for verbal inerrancy, absolute authority;
single word, “gods”.

Jesus authenticates the Old Testament

35 If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken;

Moses prayer answered in John 10

Numbers 27:15-17
15 And Moses spake unto the Lord, saying,
16 Let the Lord, the God of the spirits of all flesh, set a man over the congregation,
17 Which may go out before them, and which may go in before them, and which may lead them out, and which may bring them in; that the congregation of the Lord be not as sheep which have no shepherd.

Assurance

27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.
30 I and my Father are one.

1 John 2:22
Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.

-----John 11-----

1 Now a certain man was sick, named Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha.

Bethany: “House of Figs”; “House of Affliction.”

There is no record of anyone dying in the presence of the LORD.
And no one remained sick in his presence.

The raising of Lazarus is only recorded in the Gospel of John

Lazarus is a nick name for Eleazer  “Comforter” "God is my help"

Only 2 Lazarus mentioned in the Bible.
Luke 16 - Lazarus and the Rich man is not a parable – Parables don’t use names.
Not the same Lazarus that was brought back from dead mentioned in John 12

When he had heard therefore that he was sick, he abode two days still in the same place where he was.

Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world.
10 But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because there is no light in him.

Don't worry I still have work to do. My appointed time has not yet come.

Only one day journey from Bethabara "house of a ford or passage". Jesus waited for two days...

According to Alfred Edersheim:
Burial took place on the day of the death.
The mourning period began immediately and lasted a month.
First three days: professionals. "Hired wailers"
Fourth day after was the day for friends to visit.

11 These things said he: and after that he saith unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep.

The word "Sleep" is used for death several times in the OT. But in the

NT it is used only for believers (1 Cor 15; 1 Thessalonians 4:14; 5:10).

Why does the Holy Spirit use the word “Sleep”?
Picture of Resurrection - We lie down to rise again. Dan 12:2
If you have no hope(Salvation) you will not rise.

2 Resurrections, the first resurrection is a category –
Jesus was the first fruit of that category - Colossians 1:18
2nd death is in Revelation 20

I AM the Bread of Life 6:35

I AM the light of the world  8:12

I AM the door 10:9

25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:

26 And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?

Do you Believe?

John 5:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

43 And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.
Just a thought: If Jesus hadn't specified "Lazarus" would all of the dead have risen?

Mary is always at the feet of Jesus in the Gospel of John.

45 Then many of the Jews which came to Mary, and had seen the things which Jesus did, believed on him.

They came to Mary (the youngest of the 2 sisters) Why? She was usually found at Jesus feet.

Do people come to you? Are you a magnet for Him? Are you always found at Jesus feet?

Atheism is a choice not a conviction.
Psalms 14:1 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

Lazarus was:
Dead. Just like we (were).
Defeated. Trammeled in his grave clothes. Most of us are alive, but hindered by our grave clothes.
Dangerous. Now they had to kill him (12:10). Are you “dangerous” for Him?
Dines with Jesus (12:1; 14:3).

-----John 12-----

This chapter begins the Final Week of Jesus’ ministry on Planet Earth.

Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment.

---That time a woman kept her hair bound up, or covered. To have your head unbound was a disgrace.

Just a thought: She worshiped by disgracing herself. Reminds me of when King David "disgraced" or "removed" his positional robes to dance and praise "Worship" the Lord before the Ark (2 Samuel 6, and  1 Chronicles 15).

A solemn reminder when we worship that it is not who we are, but who He is.

“6 days before Passover”: Eighth of Nisan. (Triumphal Entry, 10th of Nisan.)
At the house of Simon the leper (Mt 26:6-13; Mk 14:3-9).

10th of Nisan: lambs are presented for approval for four days of inspection (Ex 12:3-6).

Socialism will not work
For the poor always ye have with you; but me ye have not always.

The gentiles recognized Jesus at His birth and at His death.

Voice from heaven (3rd time)

28 Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.

“...a voice from Heaven 3x ”
1. The beginning of Jesus’ ministry At His baptism (Mark 1:11);
2. The beginning of the last trip to Jerusalem At the transfiguration (Mark 9:7);
3. The beginning of the Final Week At the Temple (John 12:28).

-----John 13-----

The book of John does not have the Olivet Discourse (like: Matthew, Mark, & Luke), But does have the Upper Room Discourse.

 v.3
 Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God;

We too need to know where we came from and where we are going.

When you face difficulty, see where you came from, and to where you are going. Than serve in humility.

Washing feet – Cleansing your walk.

He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself.
After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded.

Jesus showed us that:

It is not you Power

It is not your Position

It is Your willingness to serve

That demonstrates God's love.

I heard this once and it has stuck in my mind since

"A great man shows his greatness on how he treats the little guy".

A New Commandment: Love the way I do

34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

Peter’s Denial Predicted (verses:36-38)

36 Simon Peter said unto him, Lord, whither goest thou? Jesus answered him, Whither I go, thou canst not follow me now; but thou shalt follow me afterwards.
37 Peter said unto him, Lord, why cannot I follow thee now? I will lay down my life for thy sake.
38 Jesus answered him, Wilt thou lay down thy life for my sake? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, The cock shall not crow, till thou hast denied me thrice.

His Lesson: Peter failed in his strong suit.
Our Lesson: Have no confidence in the flesh (Philippians 3:3).

Pride takes hold of what you are best at.

I AM the door 10:9

I AM the good shepherd 10:11

I AM the resurrection and the life 11:25
I AM the way, the truth, and the life 14:6
I AM the true vine 15:1

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Promise of the Holy Ghost / Spirit

16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

Every time I come across this passage I'm reminded of when I lived in the Amazon and we had a guy come by and tell us that the "Comforter" was a woman, the comforters' name: Grandma Rose. He went to a church that had "Grandma Rose" (Vovó Rosa) in the Title.   Funny, but Sad.

“...another”: Two Greek words for “another”; allon, same kind vs.
heteron, different kind (cf. Acts 7:18...)

Comforter”: Parakleton, “one summoned along side to help.”
 Appears 4 times in John’s Gospel (John 14:16, 26; 15:26; 16:7)

-----John 15-----

I AM the Bread of Life 6:35

I AM the light of the world  8:12

I AM the door 10:9

I AM the good shepherd 10:11

I AM the resurrection and the life 11:25

I AM the way, the truth, and the life 14:6
I AM the true vine 15:1

1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.

-----John 16-----

The Holy Spirit Does not speak of Himself

This always reminds me that we should be careful of churches or people that put so much emphases on the Holy Spirit/ Holy Ghost to the extent that it almost seems to overshadows Jesus Christ.

The words of Jesus recorded in John

 John 16:12-14
12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.
13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

Interesting that all throughout scripture whenever you come to a section that has an unnamed servant,
that it is usually a type or picture of the Holy Spirit.

-----John 17-----

Why Judas?

12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.

Son of perdition is only used 2 times in scripture.
1. Judas (John 17:12)
2. The antichrist   (2 Thessalonians 2:3)

Four Reasons for Mentioning Judas:
1) To show there was no failure in discharging the trust which the
Father had committed to Him;
2) To assure the disciples of this, so that their faith might not be
staggered;
3) To demonstrate that Christ had not been deceived by Judas;
4) To declare God’s hand and counsel in it. “That the scripture
might be fulfilled” (Ps 41, 109)

Jesus Prayer

The only prayer mentioned in the book of John that Jesus prayed

The Disciples Prayer Matthew 6:9-13
(Jesus showing how His disciples to pray “Lord teach us to pray”)

Interesting:
Jesus prayed for something that He knew was going to happen.

Prayer is God’s way of enlisting you in what He is doing.

Jesus Praying

During His baptism (Luke 3:21);
In the beginning of His public ministry (Mark 1:35);
On the eve of selecting disciples (Luke 6:12)
All night long; at the transfiguration (Luke 9:29);
When He died on the cross, ceased to breathe (Luke 23:46).
The most important work we do is prayer.

All factors of Redemption are here in Chapter 17:
  1. Salvation v.2
  2. Manifestation v.6
  3. Representation v.9
  4. Preservation v.12
  5. Sanctification v. 17-19
  6. Identification v.21
  7. Glorification v.22

Jesus has seven specific requests:
  1. Glorification of the Son v. 1
  2. Restoration of His original glory 5
  3. Protection of His disciples (and future believers, You and me) 11,15
  4. Sanctification 17
  5. Unification 21-23
  6. Glorification 24
  7. Salvation for the world 21

This should challenge all of us believers
And, presents a valid and sure basis for us to take His place here below:

  1.  “I have given them the words which thou gavest me.” (17:8).
  2.  “That they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves.” (17:13)
  3.  “They are not of the world even as I am not of the world.” (17:16)
  4.  “As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I sent them into the world.” (17:18)
  5.  “I sanctify myself that they also might be sanctified.” (17:19)
  6. “The glory which thou gavest me, I have given them.” (17:22)
  7.  “The love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them.” (17:26).
Truth is when the Word and the Deed become one.

The believer has

the same life as Christ (17:2)

the same security as Christ (17:11)

the same separation as Christ (17:14)

the same sending into the world as Christ (17:18)

the same union as Christ (17:21)

the same glory as Christ (17:22)

the same love as Christ (17:23)

A miserable Christian is an oxymoron.

Sanctification

17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

I came up with this the other day and mentally digested it for several days before deciding to place it here.

Unsaved                        When we get saved               Sanctification

A God                               The God                               My God
A Healer                           The Healer                           My Healer
A Friend                            The Friend                           My Friend
A Way                               The Way                              My Way
A etc...                               The etc...                             My etc...

Like a breaker box in the house we were dead until we accept Jesus Christ as our personal Savior. Then, the power is turned on (once saved always saved), The only problem is that most of the breakers are in off position and have to be turned on individually to illuminate the rest of the house.

What I'm trying to say is that after we get saved and a trial/test like a serious illness comes into our lives, God goes from being A Healer (when unsaved) to The Healer (when Saved), To My Healer (as we are Sanctified) It comes down to a intimate relationship with Him. When you are placed to where you have to relying on Him alone you learn to claim Him as "My___________".

Salvation is instant. Power is applied to the Breaker Box.
Sanctification is a continual process of turning breakers on to let The Light fill every corner of the house.

-----John 18-----

The Agony in the Garden was not mentioned in John.

When Jesus had spoken these words, he went forth with his disciples over the brook Cedron, where was a garden, into the which he entered, and his disciples.

The name Gethsemane omitted from John's Gospel and instead  Brook Cedron “dark (black) waters.”

This brook divides Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives.

3] Judas then, having received a band [of men] and officers from the chief priests

and Pharisees, cometh thither with lanterns and torches and weapons.

“Band of men”: Greek ten speiran = 1/10 of legion; cohort: 400-600 men.

10 Then Simon Peter having a sword drew it, and smote the high priest's servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant's name was Malchus.

Peter’s Sword   >  It was unlawful to carry a weapon on feast day.

Judas was with them

 a good passage to read

Exodus 23:1-8

1 Thou shalt not raise a false report: put not thine hand with the wicked to be an unrighteous witness.
2 Thou shalt not follow a multitude to do evil; neither shalt thou speak in a cause to decline after many to wrest judgment:
Neither shalt thou countenance a poor man in his cause.
If thou meet thine enemy's ox or his ass going astray, thou shalt surely bring it back to him again.
If thou see the ass of him that hateth thee lying under his burden, and wouldest forbear to help him, thou shalt surely help with him.
Thou shalt not wrest the judgment of thy poor in his cause.
Keep thee far from a false matter; and the innocent and righteous slay thou not: for I will not justify the wicked.
And thou shalt take no gift: for the gift blindeth the wise, and perverteth the words of the righteous.

22 And when he had thus spoken, one of the officers which stood by struck Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying, Answerest thou the high priest so?

Micah 5:1
Now gather thyself in troops, O daughter of troops: he hath laid siege against us: they shall smite the judge of Israel with a rod upon the cheek.

23 Jesus answered him, If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil: but if well, why smitest thou me?

Isaiah 52:14 As many were astonied at thee; his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men:  (KJV)

More literal rendering:
“So marred from the form of man was His aspect that His appearance was not that of a a son of a man.” (not human)

Leviticus 16: 27 And the bullock for the sin offering, and the goat for the sin offering, whose blood was brought in to make atonement in the holy place, shall one carry forth without the camp; and they shall burn in the fire their skins, and their flesh, and their dung.

Our sin offering [Jesus] was taken outside of the City.

Jesus’ trial before Pilate took place in 7 stages:

18:28-32;                    18:33-37

18:38-40                     19:1-3

19:12-46

 What is truth?

38 Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all.

Truth is when the word and the deed become one.  ( Word + Deed = The Same )

If I were to say I could climb Mt.Everest and break the world record doing it you would probably laugh at me. On the same hand if I said that, then went and actually climbed Mt Everest and beat the world record climbing, you would know that I spoke the Truth.

So my actions Validated my words.

Read John Chapter 1 with that focus in mind. "The Word became flesh".

So if what is truth is word backed up by deed.

We say we are Christians (Christ like), but do our deeds validated our words?

James 2:17-18
17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.

-----John 19-----

Read Psalms 22 and Isaiah 53 along with the crucifixion.

v.7 The Jews answered him, We have a law, and by our law he ought to die, because

he made himself the Son of God.

According to the Jews, he should die for blasphemy  (they missed the fact that he was/is the promised Messiah).

Leviticus 24:16 And he that blasphemeth the name of the Lord, he shall surely be put to death, and all the congregation shall certainly stone him: as well the stranger, as he that is born in the land, when he blasphemeth the name of the Lord, shall be put to death.

Law law for blasphemy was stoning if they[Jews] were to carry it out. However they were under Roman control and the power of carrying out capital punishment had been removed from the Jews.

Pilate Was Given Three Warnings:
The good witness of Christ - 1 Timothy 6:13
Dream of his wife - Matthew 27:19
Real motive of Sanhedrin revealed - John 19:7

13. When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he brought Jesus forth, and sat down

in the judgment seat in a place that is called the Pavement, but in the Hebrew,

Gabbatha.

“Pavement”: Only other mention, Hebrew equivalent: In Ahaz’s surrender
to abject apostasy (2 Kings 16:17).

Heard this but have not done a whole lot of digging into it yet but thought it would be neat to check into sometime. In Leviticus there are 4 Blood Sacrifices, The four Gospels all present the crucifixion of Jesus Christ in the form of one of thouse offerings.

1. Burnt Offering (God Glorified) John's Gospel Psalm 40

2. Meat Offering  (Actually a "Meal" Offering - No meat/blood involved) Psalm 16

3. Peace Offering (Fellowship) Luke's Gospel Psalm 85

4. Sin Offering (Judgment Of Sin) Mark's Gospel Psalm 22

5. Trespass Offering (Atonement and Forgiveness) Matthew's Gospel Psalm 69

23. Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments, and made

four parts, to every soldier a part; and also [his] coat: now the coat was without

seam, woven from the top throughout.

Two groups contrasted at the foot of the cross:
4 soldiers;
1Centurion.

4 ministering women;
John.

Mary Magdalene (The first to see Jesus resurrected Mark 16:9)
Mary, wife of Cleophas (From the Road to Emmaus Luke 24:18?).

Mary, mother of Jesus;
her sister, Jesus’ aunt (Joseph’s sister?).

Mary means: “bitterness” 3 Mary's
John means"Jehovah has been gracious"  "has shown favor"

I've never heard anyone mention this before but thought about it while studying:
3 Mary's a picture of 3 "bitter" days for the followers, then our Resurrected Savior shows that "God has been gracious" to us.

Interesting that the ones that saw Him first were ones that seemed to have a heart more connected.

After His resurrection, Jesus was only touched by loving hands, and only seen by loving eyes.
