Treat Animals good

10 A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast: but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.

Keep a close eye out for those that find pleasure in the hurting of animals.
There is a strong link in people that mistreat animals becoming abusive in relationships.

God cares even when a bird dies.

 Matthew 10:29
Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.

-----Proverbs 13-----

-----Proverbs 14-----

Where no oxen are, the crib is clean: but much increase is by the strength of the ox.

There is crap to clean up if you have oxen, but you can get more labor done with them then without.

Pastor Mark Gungor has a neat rendition of this verse were he likes to use this to illustrate the church members in a church, if you don't have many people it is easier to keep clean, if you have a lot of people you can often get more done but will alone with that have more things to clean up.

31 He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker: but he that honoureth him hath mercy on the poor.

-----Proverbs 15-----

Some key verses that I like in this passage

13 A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.

16 Better is little with the fear of the Lord than great treasure and trouble therewith.

22 Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.

30 The light of the eyes rejoiceth the heart: and a good report maketh the bones fat.

33 The fear of the Lord is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility.

-----Proverbs 16-----

A man's heart deviseth his way: but the Lord directeth his steps.

18 Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.        "arrogant"

22 Understanding is a wellspring of life unto him that hath it: but the instruction of fools is folly.

-----Proverbs 17-----

1 Better is a dry morsel, and quietness therewith, than an house full of sacrifices with strife.

Whoso mocketh the poor reproacheth his Maker: and he that is glad at calamities shall not be unpunished.

A gift is as a precious stone in the eyes of him that hath it: whithersoever it turneth, it prospereth. (KJV)

8 A bribe is seen as a charm by the one who gives it they think success will come at every turn. (NIV)

14 The beginning of strife is as when one letteth out water: therefore leave off contention, before it be meddled with.

22 A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.

28 Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.

-----Proverbs 18-----

Wife a Good Thing

22 Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the Lord.

Proverbs 12:2
A good man obtaineth favour of the Lord: but a man of wicked devices will he condemn.

Ephesians 5:25
Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

If you are married you can understand Christ love towards the Church (Bride) at a deeper and more intimate level.

-----Proverbs 20-----

11 Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right.

"Até a criança se dará a conhecer pelas suas ações, se a sua obra é pura e reta."  Proverbios 20:11

This was one of the first verses I learned in Vacation Bible School back in the mid 80's.

Coals of Fire.....Revenge?  (Proverbs 25:22)

I thought this was real interesting today......Heaping Coals of Fire has a very different meaning than what we see today in the western culture. Back in those they had to start fires from scratch and would carry almost everything on their heads. Thus to heap coals on ones head (or brazier that they carried on their head) was actually a blessing so that they could get a jump start on their fire. Thus equipping them with a means to cook, stay warm, have light, etc..

Proverbs 25:22 For you shall heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD shall reward you.

Romans 12:20 Therefore if your enemy hungers, feed him; if he thirsts, give him drink: for in so doing you shall heap coals of fire on his head.

Muddied Spring or a polluted well

Proverbs 25:25-26
25 As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.
26 A righteous man falling down before the wicked is as a troubled fountain, and a corrupt spring. KJV

25 Good news from far away
is like cold water to the thirsty.
26 If the godly give in to the wicked,
it’s like polluting a fountain or muddying a spring. NLT

A polluted fountain and a muddied spring is a disappointment to a thirsty traveler.

Like a well, don't allow things to fall into your life and stay there that will contaminate you.
We should work to "clean" our lives so that we can provide to others, a fresh taste of who Jesus is.

1 Peter 1:15-16
15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;
16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

How to clean your Life

  • Set your heart on the Lord  >  2 Chronicles 12:14
14 And he did evil, because he prepared not his heart to seek the Lord.

  • Expect Hardship  >  2 Timothy 3:12
12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

  • Discipline yourself  >  1 Corinthians 9:26-27

26 I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:
27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

-----Proverbs 28-----

Walk Upright

18 Whoso walketh uprightly shall be saved: but he that is perverse in his ways shall fall at once.

 Philippians 4:8
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

 Leviticus 11:44
For I am the Lord your God: ye shall therefore sanctify yourselves, and ye shall be holy; for I am holy: neither shall ye defile yourselves with any manner of creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

Don't forget Ephesians 2:8-9 when reading Proverbs 28:18 Salvation is by grace, walking uprightly is to follow God's word.

Ephesians 2:8-9
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Evil Eye

22 He that hasteth to be rich hath an evil eye, and considereth not that poverty shall come upon him.

 Matthew 6:23
But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!

 1 Timothy 6:17
Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;

-----Proverbs 29-----

No Vision? the people perish.

18 Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.

Why do we need the Law (God's Word) ?

Proverbs 14:12
There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

Proverbs 21:30
There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the Lord.
